  • OMG...first of all, the loops are cheezy. Second...why would anyone in their right mind pay $.99 for a loop when they can buy a full track for $1.50 and cut out countless loops for 0 dollars?? I'm sorry man, but this is unethical and I find it pathetic that we find a need to rip each other off. What is wrong with people these days? Are we that messed up in the head that our priorities are so off base?? I could care less if the site gave away 100gigs of samples......this shit is just wrong.
    • dear Darkstar, you asked,
"why would anyone in their right mind pay $.99 for a loop when they can buy a full track for $1.50 and cut out countless loops for 0 dollars?"

It's all about consent. When you buy a full track for $1.50 and use countless loops you are, in effect, ripping off the artist
      without their consent.
When you buy a loop for 99 cents the person selling it to you is giving you consent to use it.

In the case of this particular site, they are giving away a lot of free samples.........I'm assuming that you aren't compelled to buy anything
      to get them.

so it's like dishwashing soap, if you think that the samples are cheezy , simply don't buy them. It doesn't mean that the people who are trying to sell them are bad people, for chrissake, any more than the person who's selling their MP3 for 99 cents on ITunes is a bad person for trying to get people to buy what they are selling.

Personally, I tend to make my own loops because I think it's more creative and unique to do so.

but one person's cheese is another persons' masterpiece.

I'd suggest that you take all this vitriol and put it into making your own music.
      • Hey Darkstar,
I was having just a horrendous day with lots of things outside of my control happening on a day off
when I wrote this reply to you.

I realize that it's a little too reactive and I apologize.
I do stand by my point, but I truly regret writing that last line.

Peace, and please accept my apologies for my tone. It had much more to do with my mood than with yours.
        Rick
        • Ahh....you know what's funny is I have downloaded quite a few acidized loops and apple loops (for my daugter's Garage Band app) from Beathive for free. Some of them are cheezy but hey, they're free. Usually if I use them at all I mostly use the drum loops and even then, I cut them up and process them beyond recognition.

            • "it takes all kinds"... and "there are a million paths".. and, um, ok, I can't come up with another silly saying.. my point being, I encourage everyone not dismiss a technique for others, that does not work for you.. this does nothing to support people who might find it useful.. in the context of using pre-canned samples and loops, these sound bytes can allow a wonderfully quick positive feedback mechanism to people just starting to experiment with creating music.. it gives them large building blocks to snap together and create a piece of music.. and if the process captures their interest enough, they may move forward and take more control of their creative process.. using smaller and smaller building blocks.. building their own loops in a sequencer.. sound design.. etc.. let's leave the creative space open to all forms and techniques.. :)

              peace

              • point taken...

though i spend A LOT of time writing my drums.... and i believe it to be an important part of creating a track

                • I can program a drum machine but I find that stacking kicks and snares from loops to sound better in my opinion....I would prefer spending my time working on the ambience of the track by concentrating on other layers in addition to drums...I still do some drum programming on an occasion or two....sometimes I find that I can't really find the right drum feel with loops....I use what works best and fastest and I quit getting fucked up about whether it's from a loop or not a long time ago. The end result is what counts.
